Michael Lewis grew up in Bremerton Washington spending a lot of time in the great outdoors, specifically the Olympic Mountains. His great love of the outdoors sparked his interest in photography. While serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Southern Germany the beauty of the country with all it's old buildings and history further sparked his interest.
While attending Brigham Young University, Michael took a beginning black and white photo class that hooked him for life. He graduated with a BFA degree in Photography.
Two weeks after graduation Michael was in the right place at the right time, shooting his sisters wedding in Rexburg, Idaho. He was able to get an interview with Ricks College Photographer, Rod Boam, which lead to another interview with Public Relations which is where Michael has been working since August 1987. Ricks College went through a transition in 2001, becoming BYU-Idaho, a four year University instead of a two year College. For images of his University work go to photo.byui.edu.
Along with his duties as a University Photography Michael has enjoyed the opportunity to teach both non-credit photo classes and a Color Photo class through the Art Department.
Michael's love of the outdoors has been well satisfied with the Teton Mountains and Yellowstone National Park nearby along with many other scenic attractions.
Besides the great outdoors and his University work Michael does freelance work, shooting portraits, weddings, families, reunions along with some commercial work.
He hopes you enjoy a sampling of his work.
